What is A Weed

Weed management can mean many things to a land manager. To a farmer looking to reduce competition with a crop, any plant is a weed that doesn't help them to grow and harvest their crops. To a caretaker of wildlands, weeds may be a select few plants that negativity affects the native vegetation and wildlife. To many people, weeds are simply plants that they are told are bad by friends, neighbors or organizations.

Weed: Any plant that is growing where it is not wanted.

Noxious Weed: A plant determined by a governing body to be harmful to agriculture, horticulture, livestock, wildlife, or native plants.

Weed management

Our approach to weed management is based on long term reductions in weed populations achieved through methods focused on improving soil health and establishing healthy and complete plant communities. This often includes adjusting grazing practices, irrigation schedules, cultivation methods, or reducing soil disturbing activities. To speed recovery of damaged soils we often recommend methods such as fertilization, microbe inoculation, and seeding/planting.
